Ruth Ferry, Senior Vice President and Director of APiA (Stamford) describes the event:
"The
afternoon reception highlighted the valuable relationships that have
developed for the over 87,000 au pairs and host families that APiA has
supported since 1986, as the first authorized sponsor for au pair
exchanges. More than 70 APiA host parents, au pairs (representing over
20 countries), officials from the Department of State, Community
Counselors and officials from the Embassies of Austria, South Africa and
Sweden were in attendance.
Assistant Secretary Stock spoke of the valuable work the program is
doing to support international exchange. Senator Dodd, former Senator
for the State of Connecticut, current CEO of the Motion Picture
Association of America, and APiA host parent since 2005 endorsed the
program and spoke about the value of the program for his family.
Anne
Herbster and her daughter, who have had au pairs for almost 14 years,
spoke about their experience and Paloma Gomez of Mexico spoke about her
decision to come to America and what she is gaining from her time as an
au pair. William Gertz, President and CEO of AIFS, and I spoke about
the valuable partnership AIFS has developed with the Department of State
and the long term benefits of this program for au pairs and for the
children who have been raised in homes with au pairs."
